According to the update, FanDuel Sportsbook now handles a whopping 46% of market share in the online sports betting world, thanks in part to its customer acquisition. According to the report, FanDuel now has 1.8 million active users. This includes 450,000 new users since the beginning of Q3 in July.

FanDuel’s customer acquisition has been a huge area of importance since the sportsbook launched in 2019.

“We are pleased with FanDuel Group’s third quarter performance, which demonstrates our strong growth trajectory here in the U.S.,” said Matt King, Chief Executive Officer of FanDuel Group. “We remain laser focused on expanding our sportsbook operations into new states, driving increased customer acquisition, building long-term brand loyalty and identifying strategic media partnerships and product innovations that allow us to continue as America’s #1 sportsbook.”

Fanduel tweeted that “all customers” were experiencing issues accessing Sportsbook but that the issue had been resolved by 2:40 pm. It wasn’t clear what caused the outage. @AOharlem Shoutout to Lonzo and Lamelo holding my fanduel ticket down 2days in a row??? 31, 2021, 11:50 a.m. @FBBLou @FanDuel @FDSportsbook PayPal not working on your app and you guys not accepting my card how the hell am I supposed to deposit money to make bets?

To add to the positivity, FanDuel grew by 155% of total dollars wagered (or handle) in Q3, reporting $1.66 billion wagered.

FanDuel Seeks Untouched Territory To Continue Growth

  • New York (CNN Business) Fanduel, the fantasy sports and online sports betting company, experienced outages on Sunday — the last day of regular season NFL games — preventing many of its customers.

FanDuel showing growth in Q3 is not surprising given the fact that we had NFL, MLB, NBA, and NHL all running simultaneously for the first time. What is surprising however is the amount of growth we have seen and where it can go.

Taking into account the fact that sports betting is legal in 18 states, with Maryland, Louisiana, and South Dakota also recently voting in favor. As states continue to open their doors to sports betting, FanDuel is poised to continue leading the way for sports betting across the nation.

Flutter CEO Peter Jackson has his eyes on these states to open the gates to sports betting as well. In the report Jackson said, “We were pleased to see legislative momentum continue with the passage of sports betting referenda in both Louisiana and Maryland on November 3rd”

In today’s report, FanDuel further detailed its purported superiority over its competition, citing three major markets as examples:

Sportsbook
  • Only operator of the high-margin “Same-Game Parlay” for the NFL, MLB, and NBA.
  • Greatest variety of betting options; including NBA in-play markets 3x more than competitors as well as superior MLB player “prop betting”
  • Lowest market suspension during NFL in-play markets.

FanDuel is obviously extremely confident in its product, and that confidence is reaffirmed by its strong Q3 report. Flutter has taken notice by upping their investment in the sports betting leader. They intend to raise their EBITDA loss in the US to account for increased customer volumes.

On August 16, FanDuel customers got a heads-up when they logged on:

It might have seemed like odd timing, especially since major sports were on hiatus from mid-March through July. August brought back the familiar options of MLB, NBA and NHL to PA online sportsbooks.

A full slate of action was scheduled for August 17. Early games included Tampa Bay facing off against Columbus at 3 p.m. The Cardinals and Cubs played at 4:15. The main event was a quadruple-header to start the NBA Playoffs which started at 1:30 p.m. with the Utah Jazz vs. Denver Nuggets. Slots magic free spins &.

FanDuel’s Director of Publicity Kevin Hennessy commented on the timing of the upgrades:

“Pennsylvania and New Jersey was the final stage in a series of these migrations. We completed West Virginia and Indiana earlier in the year. An upgrade like this takes months to prepare. Our engineering teams have worked tirelessly to get ready for Sunday and Monday. Unfortunately, we ran into issues that prolonged the outage.”

FanDuel down, Twitter ire commences

FanDuel tweeted at 1 p.m. on Monday that their “platform upgrades” were continuing. They added that any customer who was affected by the outage and lost money on previously submitted entries for the day’s impacted contests will have their net losses refunded. The large majority were PA and NJ users.

Sportsbook users took to Twitter to express their displeasure over the timing of the upgrade and the delays.

FanDuel PA and NJ platform upgrades

The key purpose of FanDuel’s platform upgrade was migrating account and wallet functions in order for customers to have a single login and one wallet. FanDuel users in Pennsylvania and New Jersey will now have one login and wallet for their FanDuel sportsbook, online casino and DFS accounts. Winnings are also accessible across products. In addition, there is a single view of balances, transaction history and game play.

“The user experience of our platforms have been significantly improved for customers that choose to play on multiple products,” said Hennessy.

Hennessy said a small number of users in Pennsylvania and New Jersey with both fantasy and sportsbook accounts require additional security to fully merge their accounts.

“As a result, some of these users did not see their up-to-date account in our fantasy interface. To be clear, all user information, balances, pending bets and contest entries are secure and up to date. We expect to fully verify and update the account interface of users affected in this manner very soon.”
